Fraxel^® the history

It has long been known by plastic surgeons that people involved in burns who get mild (1st degree) burns, develop smooth soft skin.

Over the years ways have been developed of inducing a controlled injury to the skin in order to stimulate healing and a better skin tone.

The ultimate tool is regarded as a carbon dioxide laser. This burns off a layer of the patients skin. However, the downtime of a carbon dioxide laser treatment and the significant risk of scarring have made it an unacceptable option for all except a few patients.

Fraxel is a resurfacing laser that achieves results approaching those of a carbon dioxide laser with minimal downtime.

Fraxel^® How Does it Work?

It was discovered that if one fires a laser in to the skin and leaves healthy tissue inbetween, healing is far superior.

Fraxel fires pulses a few nanometers wide in to the skin and creates zones of healing, separated by healthy tissue. The aim is to treat 20% of the skin with any one treatment. Most people have 3-5 treatments.

Fraxel^® Aftercare

The treated body area is red for approximately 24-48 hours, depending on the depth of the treatment.

A few days after the treatment your skin will feel very soft and smooth, however over the next 6 months the skin will start to remodel to lift out scars, minor imperfections and give you smoother fresher, better quality skin.
